Not what was expected

Sunday, for our weekly drive I had decided that I wanted to go see some horses. I seem to always get the best response when I post horse photos, so I thought that would be a good prompt for the socials. Well, apparently the universe has other ideas for me.

Back in late September, early October- my husband and I had been out antelope hunting and had come across a walk-in-area that a rancher also used to keep his huge heard of horses. Of course, at the time, I did not have my camera on me, as I was slinging a different shooting device. But I knew I wanted to go back to photograph them. Now naturally, life gets in the way and things don't always work out the right way, so never made it back. The area is also a little bit out of the way and so it's not an ideal spot to be driving to every Sunday. However, this last Sunday, our boys wanted to stay back and have a play date with their cousin, so it was just my husband I. I had suggested to my husband that we should head out to that area, so we can find the heard again and I can photograph them for all my horse lovers that follow me. So, we fueled up and headed on our way!

When we started the drive, I had a fear that the horses might have been moved since we had last been out there. As soon as we came around the corner and could see across the vast field, my fears were seemingly confirmed. We were going to turn down a road that went into the property to see if maybe they were on the backside but decided against it because even though it was not marked as private, we did not want to be driving through someone's property. So, we decided to continue on with our drive.

We saw many other critters, just no horses. We drove to other locations we knew were home for a few, but they were not within distance for me to get a photo of them. They just did not feel like coming out to play on Sunday. We did however have an exciting find that day. This now makes twice we have seen just an absolute monster of a deer on the property that my grandparents used to farm. I do not have a picture of him right now as the background is just not ideal for me. Should I post them anyways? Do any of my readers what to see this stud? One of these Sunday's we are going to catch him in a magnificent spot, and I will get that photo!

The daylight quickly fled on us, so our afternoon drive came to an end, with no horses to share. One day I would love to plan a trip back home to Cody where there are wild horses that roam the McCullough Peak area. For now, I will relish in the beauty of the plains, and all the creatures that roam free.
